Income Tax Preparation in Corsicana: What to Know in 2026

Income tax preparation in Corsicana means getting your federal return filed correctly and on time, and because Texas has no state personal income tax, that federal return is the only income tax filing most local households face each year. The IRS expects about 164 million individual returns for tax year 2025, and every one of them is due by a single hard date in 2026. Anderson, Marx & Bohl PC has prepared those returns for individuals and businesses across Corsicana and Navarro County since 1972, and this guide walks through what the 2026 season looks like, the tax-law changes that matter this year, and how to arrive at your appointment ready to file.

Key Takeaways

  • Texas has no state personal income tax, so Corsicana filers prepare a federal return only.
  • Tax year 2025 returns are due Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
  • The 2025 standard deduction rose to $15,750 for single filers and $31,500 for joint filers.
  • New deductions for seniors, tips, overtime, and car loan interest apply for 2025 through 2028.
  • Bringing complete, organized records is the single biggest factor in an accurate, on-time filing.

What Does Income Tax Preparation in Corsicana Involve?

The IRS has opened the 2026 filing season and begun accepting tax year 2025 returns, and it expects roughly 164 million individual returns before the deadline. For a Corsicana filer, income tax preparation is almost entirely a federal task. Texas does not levy a personal income tax on wages, salaries, retirement income, or investment gains, so most residents file only a federal Form 1040 rather than a separate state return.

The work itself follows a clear path. You gather your income documents, confirm your filing status, apply the deductions and credits you qualify for, reconcile any estimated payments already made, and then file electronically. A local firm handles returns for individuals and businesses across a wide range of incomes, which is where experience matters: the same wage earner may also have a side business, rental income, or a retirement rollover, and each of those changes how the return is built. You can see the full scope of what a Corsicana firm handles on the tax services page, from straightforward individual filings to multi-entity business returns.

The 2025 Tax Law Changes That Shape Your 2026 Return

The single largest change this year is the standard deduction, which rose to $15,750 for single filers and $31,500 for married couples filing jointly for tax year 2025 under the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act. Head-of-household filers now use a $23,625 standard deduction. Higher standard deductions mean fewer households benefit from itemizing, so part of good preparation is simply running the math both ways.

Several new deductions also take effect. Filers age 65 and older can claim a $6,000 senior deduction, which phases out above $75,000 of modified adjusted gross income ($150,000 for joint filers). Workers who earn tips can deduct up to $25,000 of qualified tips, and those who earn overtime can deduct up to $12,500 ($25,000 for joint filers) of qualifying overtime pay. There is also a new deduction of up to $10,000 for interest on a qualifying car loan. Each of these runs for 2025 through 2028 and carries its own income phase-outs, so keeping records that separate tips, overtime, and loan interest from ordinary wages is now part of preparing an accurate return.

When Are Corsicana Income Tax Returns Due in 2026?

Federal individual returns for tax year 2025 are due Wednesday, April 15, 2026, and that date drives the entire season. Filing early does not change the deadline for paying, but it does protect your refund and shorten the window for identity-theft filings in your name.

If you cannot file by April 15, an extension moves the filing deadline to October 15, but it does not move the date your tax is due. Any balance owed still has to be paid by April to avoid interest and late-payment penalties, so an extension is a tool for gathering paperwork, not for delaying payment. Self-employed residents and business owners also carry quarterly estimated-tax deadlines throughout the year, and missing those is a common reason a return arrives with an unexpected penalty. Our 2026 filing guide for Corsicana breaks the full calendar down date by date.

Income Tax Preparation for Corsicana Small Businesses

Texas businesses do not pay a state income tax either. Instead, the Texas Comptroller administers a franchise (margin) tax with a no-tax-due threshold of $2,650,000 for the 2026 and 2027 report years, which means many small Corsicana businesses file an informational report rather than owe franchise tax at all. That still leaves the federal side, and for most local businesses the federal return is where preparation gets involved.

Most small businesses in Navarro County operate as pass-through entities, such as sole proprietorships, partnerships, or S corporations. Their profit flows onto the owners’ personal federal returns, so clean books are not a bookkeeping nicety, they are the foundation of an accurate tax return. Reliable monthly records make it possible to claim every legitimate expense, support the number if it is ever questioned, and avoid the scramble of rebuilding a year of transactions in April. Businesses that keep their payroll and bookkeeping current move through tax season with far less friction than those that hand over a shoebox of receipts.

What to Bring to Your Corsicana Income Tax Appointment

A complete, organized document set is the single biggest factor in an accurate, on-time return, because a preparer can only work with what you provide. Arriving with everything in one place shortens the process and reduces the odds of an amended return later.

For most individual filers, bring the following:

  • Photo ID and Social Security numbers for you, your spouse, and any dependents
  • All income forms: W-2s, and 1099s for contract work, interest, dividends, retirement distributions, and 1099-K for payment apps
  • Records for the new deductions: tips earned, overtime pay, and interest paid on a qualifying car loan
  • Deduction support: mortgage interest (Form 1098), property tax statements, and charitable donation receipts
  • Your prior-year tax return, which speeds up carryovers and comparisons
  • Records of any estimated tax payments you already made during 2025

Business owners should add year-end profit-and-loss and balance-sheet reports, asset purchase records for depreciation, mileage logs, and any payroll tax filings. If you are unsure what applies to your situation, a quick call before your appointment usually clears it up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Corsicana residents pay Texas state income tax?

No. Texas has no state personal income tax on wages, salaries, retirement income, or investment gains, so Corsicana residents prepare and file a federal income tax return only. Business owners may have a separate Texas franchise tax report, but that is not an income tax.

When is the 2026 federal income tax filing deadline?

Tax year 2025 returns are due Wednesday, April 15, 2026. An extension can move the filing date to October 15, but any tax you owe is still due by April 15 to avoid interest and late-payment penalties.

What new deductions can I claim on my 2025 income tax return?

For 2025 through 2028, eligible filers can claim a $6,000 senior deduction, deduct up to $25,000 of qualified tips, deduct up to $12,500 ($25,000 for joint filers) of qualifying overtime pay, and deduct up to $10,000 of interest on a qualifying car loan. Each has its own income phase-out, so keeping clear records of these amounts helps at filing time.

What documents do I need for income tax preparation?

Bring photo ID and Social Security numbers, all W-2s and 1099s, records of tips, overtime, and car loan interest, mortgage and property tax statements, charitable donation receipts, your prior-year return, and any estimated payment records. Business owners should also bring year-end financial statements and payroll filings.

Do I need a CPA to prepare my income taxes in Corsicana?

A simple return with one W-2 may not require professional help, but a CPA becomes valuable once you add a business, rental property, retirement income, or the new 2025 deductions. A certified public accountant can confirm you claim every credit you qualify for and file a return that holds up if it is ever reviewed.

Income tax preparation in Corsicana comes down to two things: knowing the federal rules that changed this year, and arriving with organized records well before the April deadline. Handle both and the season becomes routine rather than stressful. If you would like a local team to prepare your 2025 return, Anderson, Marx & Bohl PC is ready to help.
