Business Tax Services in Corsicana, TX: Filing Deadlines

Business tax services in Corsicana, TX cover three things: the federal return your entity files, the Texas reports that come with operating here, and the planning in between. Which return you file depends on how the business is organized, not on how big it is. This guide sets out the dates a Corsicana business works to, what the Texas franchise tax report asks for, and when the work is worth handing over. Federal figures below are IRS rules and Texas figures are Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts rules, both read September 28, 2026.

Key Takeaways

  • A calendar-year partnership or S corporation files its federal return by March 15. A C corporation or sole proprietor files by April 15.
  • Texas has no personal income tax, but a registered entity still files a franchise tax report with the Texas Comptroller by May 15 each year.
  • No franchise tax is owed below $2,650,000 in annualized total revenue for report years 2026 and 2027, yet a Public Information Report or Ownership Report is still due.
  • Sales tax in Corsicana is 8.25 percent: 6.25 state, 1.50 city and 0.50 county.
  • For the 2025 tax year, the extended federal deadline for a calendar-year C corporation or sole proprietor is October 15, 2026.

What business tax services in Corsicana, TX cover

Individual tax preparation is one return, once a year. A business carries a calendar. There is the federal entity return, the annual Texas franchise tax report, a sales tax return if you sell taxable goods or services, and quarterly payroll filings if you have employees. Miss one and the penalty is rarely the largest cost; the disruption of reconstructing a year of records usually is.

So business tax services are less a single deliverable than a set of obligations someone has to own. At Anderson, Marx & Bohl PC that means the entity return, the Texas filings, and the payroll and bookkeeping that keep the numbers ready when those dates arrive. We have done this work from an office on North Main Street in Corsicana since 1972, for businesses across Navarro County.

If you are filing as an individual rather than as a business, our Corsicana tax preparation guide is the better starting point. The rest of this page is about entities.

Which federal return your business files, and when

Entity type decides the form and the date. For a calendar-year taxpayer, the IRS sets it out like this.

  • Sole proprietor or single-member LLC. Schedule C, filed with your Form 1040, due April 15. Net earnings also carry self-employment tax at 15.3 percent, made up of 12.4 percent for Social Security and 2.9 percent for Medicare.
  • Partnership or multi-member LLC. Form 1065, due March 15, plus a Schedule K-1 to every partner.
  • S corporation. Form 1120-S, due March 15, plus a K-1 to every shareholder.
  • C corporation. Form 1120, due April 15.

The March 15 dates matter more than they look. A partner or shareholder cannot finish a personal return until the K-1 arrives, so a late entity return pushes every owner’s filing back with it. That single dependency is the most common reason a Corsicana business moves from a seasonal preparer to a firm that holds the whole calendar.

Form 7004 gives an automatic six-month extension to file: September 15 for a calendar-year partnership or S corporation, October 15 for a C corporation. Individuals get the same six months with Form 4868, to October 15. An extension moves the filing date, never the payment date. Tax still owed after the original deadline accrues interest and penalties from that deadline, not from the extended one. As of today, September 28, 2026, the September 15, 2026 extended date for 2025 partnership and S corporation returns has passed, and the October 15, 2026 date for extended C corporation and individual returns is the next one on the federal calendar.

The Texas franchise tax report every Corsicana entity files

Texas levies no personal income tax, which is the part most people know. The part that surprises new owners is that the state taxes the entity instead, through the franchise tax, and that the report is due whether or not any tax is owed.

The no-tax-due threshold is $2,650,000 in annualized total revenue for report years 2026 and 2027. Clear it and the rate is 0.375 percent for retail and wholesale businesses and 0.75 percent for other business types; an EZ computation at 0.331 percent is available to entities under $20 million in total revenue. Stay below the threshold and you owe nothing, but you still file a Public Information Report or an Ownership Report with the Comptroller.

The annual due date is May 15. When May 15 falls on a weekend or holiday the deadline moves to the next business day, which it does in 2027, because May 15, 2027 is a Saturday. A non-EFT taxpayer can extend to November 15. Mandatory electronic funds transfer taxpayers work to August 15 and then November 15.

$2.65M

Texas franchise tax no-tax-due threshold for report years 2026 and 2027 — $2,650,000 in annualized total revenue; entities below it still file a report

IRS Publication 509 and the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, both read 2026-09-28. Dates shown are for calendar-year taxpayers.

One practical consequence: the franchise threshold is measured on revenue, so a good year can create a filing obligation you did not have the year before. That is worth watching in the fall rather than discovering the following May.

Sales tax and payroll: the filings that run all year

If your business sells taxable goods or services, you collect sales and use tax at 8.25 percent in Corsicana. That is the maximum rate Texas allows, and it breaks down as 6.25 percent state, 1.50 percent City of Corsicana and 0.50 percent Navarro County. The Comptroller assigns your filing frequency when the permit is approved. Monthly filers report on the 20th of the following month, quarterly filers on January 20, April 20, July 20 and October 20, and yearly filers on January 20.

If you have employees, Form 941 is due at the end of the month after each quarter closes: April 30, July 31, October 31 and January 31. Payroll also brings deposit schedules, which are a separate obligation from the return and the one most often missed by a business that has just hired its first employee. Our payroll and bookkeeping service exists mainly so those dates stop being the owner’s problem.

These filings are only as easy as the records behind them. Where the books are current, a return is a review. Where they are not, the work becomes reconstruction, which costs more and takes longer. A QuickBooks accountant in Corsicana can get the ledgers to the state where the rest of this calendar is routine.

When to bring a CPA into a business tax question

Some moments justify professional help more than a March deadline does, because the decision sets the tax treatment for years afterward.

  • Forming or restructuring. Choosing between an LLC taxed as a partnership and an S corporation election changes the return, the payroll, and the owners’ self-employment tax.
  • Hiring the first employee. Payroll registration, deposits and Form 941 start immediately, not at year end.
  • Approaching the franchise threshold. Crossing $2,650,000 changes the report you file and adds a tax to plan for.
  • A notice from the IRS or the Comptroller. Only a CPA, an enrolled agent or an attorney can represent you before the IRS.
  • A lender, bonding company or grantor asking for assured statements. That is audit and review work, a different engagement from a tax return.

If you are still deciding who should do the work, our guide on how to choose a CPA in Corsicana covers what to ask. For year-round support rather than a single filing, start with the small business accountant guide instead.

Working with a Corsicana CPA firm on your business taxes

The federal and Texas rules on this page apply the same way in Kerens, Blooming Grove, Dawson, Frost, Rice and Barry as they do in Corsicana. What a local firm adds is continuity: the same people hold the entity return, the franchise report and the payroll filings, so nothing falls between two providers who each assume the other has it.

Anderson, Marx & Bohl PC has worked with businesses, government entities and nonprofit organizations across Navarro County since 1972. You can read about the firm and its partners, or contact our office at 119 N Main St in Corsicana to talk through which returns your business owes and when.

Do I still need a CPA if my business uses accounting software?

Software records what already happened. It does not decide how your entity should be taxed, tell you the month you crossed a Texas filing threshold, or answer a notice on your behalf. A CPA firm handles the judgment and the representation. On a business return, where one election can follow you for years, that is where the value sits.
