Tax Services in Corsicana, TX: What a Local CPA Firm Does

Tax services in Corsicana, TX are the professional work of preparing accurate returns, planning ahead to lower what you owe, and representing you if the IRS has questions. Because Texas has no personal state income tax, a Corsicana return is a federal return, which sounds simpler than it is. The federal code changes every year, and one missed credit or misfiled form can cost real money. At Anderson, Marx & Bohl PC, we have handled tax work for Corsicana individuals and businesses from our office at 119 N Main Street since 1972. This guide explains what local tax services actually cover in 2026 and how to choose a firm that fits your situation.

Key Takeaways

  • Tax services in Corsicana cover four core areas: preparation, planning, business and entity returns, and representation before the IRS.
  • Texas has no personal income tax, so a Corsicana return is a federal return, but business owners still face the Texas franchise tax.
  • For tax year 2025 the standard deduction rose to $15,750 for single filers and $31,500 for married couples filing jointly.
  • Anyone with an IRS preparer number can charge to file returns, but only CPAs, enrolled agents, and attorneys can represent you in an audit.
  • Tax planning is a year-round service, while preparation is the filing step. A local CPA firm handles both under one roof.

What do tax services in Corsicana, TX include?

Tax services in Corsicana break down into four jobs: preparing the return, planning to reduce future tax, handling business and entity filings, and standing in for you before the IRS. The scale of that first job is easy to underestimate. The IRS processed 138,567,000 individual income tax returns during the 2026 filing season, and each one started with the same task of gathering records and applying the rules correctly, according to IRS filing season data.

Full-service preparation goes past data entry. A local firm reviews your prior returns, confirms which credits and deductions apply, checks for errors, and files electronically. Planning is the forward-looking half: strategies to time income, deductions, and retirement contributions so next April holds fewer surprises. You can see how we split these two functions on our tax services page. For individuals who want a step-by-step walkthrough of the filing itself, our Corsicana tax preparation guide covers what to bring and when.

Why does Texas having no state income tax change your tax services?

Texas has no state income tax, so tax services in Corsicana center on your federal return rather than a separate state filing. The Texas Comptroller confirms the state levies no personal income tax, which is one reason many families and business owners choose Texas. That single fact removes a whole category of paperwork, but it does not make the federal side simple.

Business owners have a second layer to watch. Texas charges a franchise tax on many entities, and the Comptroller has set the no-tax-due threshold at $2,650,000 in annualized total revenue starting January 1, 2026, meaning businesses below that figure owe no franchise tax. Knowing where your company sits against that line is part of what a Corsicana CPA firm tracks for you, so you neither overpay nor miss a filing.

How much is the standard deduction, and how does it change your return?

The standard deduction sets the income you can shield before tax applies, and it jumped for 2025 under the One Big Beautiful Bill. For tax year 2025, the IRS reports the standard deduction is $15,750 for single filers, $31,500 for married couples filing jointly, and $23,625 for heads of household. Those figures rise again in 2026.

Filing status Tax year 2025 Tax year 2026
Single $15,750 $16,100
Married filing jointly $31,500 $32,200
Head of household $23,625 $24,150

Why does this matter for tax services? The higher the standard deduction, the fewer households benefit from itemizing. A good preparer runs both calculations and takes the larger one, then uses the result to shape next year’s plan. That comparison is routine work, and it is exactly the kind of decision that separates careful tax planning in Corsicana, TX from simple data entry.

What tax services do Corsicana small businesses need?

Corsicana small businesses need preparation, planning, payroll, and bookkeeping working together, because a business return is only as accurate as the books behind it. Small firms are the backbone of the state economy. The Texas Comptroller counts 3.5 million small businesses in Texas, roughly 99.8 percent of all businesses in the state, and they employ about 5.1 million people, close to 44 percent of the workforce.

For a Corsicana business owner, business tax services usually mean entity returns, quarterly estimated payments, sales tax filings, and coordination with payroll. That last piece is where accuracy starts. Clean books feed a clean return, which is why we pair tax work with payroll and bookkeeping services, including QuickBooks setup and monthly reconciliation. When the ledgers are current, tax planning becomes a conversation about strategy rather than a scramble to reconstruct the year.

How do you choose a tax preparer in Corsicana?

Choose a preparer by credential, because the letters after a name decide what that person can legally do for you. Anyone with an IRS preparer tax identification number (PTIN) is allowed to charge to prepare a federal return, but representation rights are narrower. The IRS states that enrolled agents, certified public accountants, and attorneys have unlimited representation rights before the agency, meaning they can represent you on audits, collection issues, and appeals. Preparers without a credential have limited rights and cannot handle an appeal even for a return they filed.

That distinction is the practical case for using a CPA firm. If a return you filed is questioned, a certified public accountant can stand in for you at every stage. Our partners are all CPAs, and they take part directly in client engagements, from routine returns to the audit and review services we provide for governments, nonprofits, and businesses across Navarro County. You can meet the CPAs behind the firm on our team page.

When should you use tax planning versus tax preparation?

Use tax preparation once a year to file, and tax planning all year to shape what that filing looks like. Preparation is the deadline task most people picture. The average federal refund reached $3,275 in the 2026 filing season, and about 98 percent of returns were filed electronically, per IRS data. A refund that size is really your own money returned, so planning aims to right-size it rather than celebrate it.

Planning happens between filings. It is the mid-year check on estimated payments, the decision to accelerate or defer income, and the review of retirement and health accounts before December 31 closes the window. A firm that only appears in April can prepare your return, but it cannot plan it. Working with one local team for both means the strategy set in the fall shows up correctly on the return filed in the spring.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tax services does a Corsicana CPA firm offer?
A full-service Corsicana CPA firm offers tax preparation, tax planning, business and entity returns, payroll, bookkeeping, and audit and review services. At Anderson, Marx & Bohl PC, those functions sit under one roof so your books, payroll, and tax return stay consistent.

Do I have to file a Texas state income tax return?
No. Texas has no personal state income tax, so individuals in Corsicana file a federal return only. Business owners may still owe the Texas franchise tax, which carries a no-tax-due threshold of $2,650,000 in annualized revenue starting January 1, 2026.

What is the difference between a CPA and a regular tax preparer?
Any preparer with an IRS PTIN can file your return for a fee, but only CPAs, enrolled agents, and attorneys have unlimited rights to represent you before the IRS in an audit, appeal, or collection matter. A CPA can both prepare the return and defend it.

What is the standard deduction for 2025?
For tax year 2025, the standard deduction is $15,750 for single filers, $31,500 for married couples filing jointly, and $23,625 for heads of household, under the One Big Beautiful Bill. The amounts rise again for tax year 2026.

Can a CPA represent me in an IRS audit?
Yes. Certified public accountants hold unlimited representation rights before the IRS, so a CPA can represent you on audits, collection issues, and appeals, including for returns they did not originally prepare.

Do you serve businesses outside Corsicana?
Yes. We serve Corsicana and Navarro County along with the surrounding communities, and our audit team works with school districts, municipalities, government entities, and nonprofits across the region.
